AI availability and business definitions need operational checks

Microsoft is rolling out additional fair-use limits for Copilot Chat users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Google has made Knowledge Catalog grounding in trusted semantic models generally available, while its automated context enrichment remains in preview. These changes affect different parts of an enterprise AI workflow: whether a user can keep using a feature, and whether an agent interprets a business question consistently.

The November 7 signal is to test AI availability and answer context

Ask the help desk to rehearse a Copilot Chat limit notification and the route for requesting a license. Then test a data agent with two users who have different permissions and an ambiguous metric. Record the source definition, generated query, returned rows, and any proposed context change before treating the answer as reliable.

Ground data agents in approved business definitions

Source: Google Cloud

Google says Knowledge Catalog can now ground agents in trusted semantic models from BigQuery, Looker, Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, and SAP without moving the underlying data. That semantic-model capability is generally available. Self-learning enrichment from unstructured sources, a review studio, and default Knowledge Catalog grounding in Gemini are separate preview features. Google says generated queries still follow each user's access permissions.

Why this matters: Choose a disputed business metric and test whether two users get the approved definition while seeing only rows each is allowed to access. Trace the model, catalog entry, generated query, and returned result. For preview enrichment, require a data steward to review proposed context changes and test versioning and rollback before letting them shape production answers.
