Budget maintainer review time alongside AI-assisted bug discovery
Source: Robert Haas
PostgreSQL committer Robert Haas says LLM-assisted reports have exposed more bugs and increased the work of verifying, fixing, and back-patching them. The PostgreSQL project separately says it plans a second release candidate on November 12 and general availability on November 19 so it can include a large set of fixes. Haas attributes the added review pressure and delay partly to AI; the project's release notice confirms the schedule and fixes, but does not itself assign that cause.
Why this matters: A faster stream of bug reports can still slow a release if maintainers cannot reproduce and review each finding. Track the proportion of AI-assisted reports that are valid, the time to triage and patch, the back-branch work they create, and the release checks they displace. Keep a human owner for acceptance and disclosure, and reserve capacity for verification before expanding automated discovery.
