Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 2006
As of today Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops 2006 is available.
I have installed this in my lab and want share some of the new things:
Removed unsupported items
As of version 2003, the following technologies and host type are not supported in CVAD CR deployments:
- Personal vDisk (PvD) for storing data next to users VM’s. Replaced with user personalization layer (https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/citrix-virtual-apps-desktops/install-configure/user-personalization-layer.html)
- AppDisk for managing applications used in Delivery Groups
- Host types for connections: Azure Classic, Azure ARM, Amazone AWS, Cloudplatform.
As of version 2006, if your current deployment uses PvDs or AppDisks, or has connections to unsupported host types, you can upgrade your deployment to version 2006 (or later supported versions) only after removing items that use those technologies.
Self- Service Password Reset.
As of version 2003, the Self-Service Password component is deprecated. As of version 2006, You cannot use the full-product installer to install or upgrade the component. The component’s installer is not available on the installation media
EnhancedDesktopExperience MSI removed
The EnhancedDesktopExperience MSI has been removed from the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops current release layout.
This feature was valid when installing VDAs on Windows Server 2012 R2 and earlier versions. The feature is not valid on Windows OS versions that are currently supported for multi-session VDAs.
If a VDA installation command contains the /nodesktopexperience option, that option is ignored. The Enhanced Desktop Experience policy setting is also ignored, if specified.
Usage data collection:
When you ise Scout, Citrix uses Google Anaytics to collect aonymous usage data to be used for future product enhancements.
Health Check updates:
In previous versions we were able to do healthcheck on Delivery Controllers, StoreFront Servers and License Servers. In Extension this release now support healthcheck on VDA, this will help troubleshooting VDA registration and common issues.
Also an option is available to “Import VDA Machines”, this is useful when you need to run Health Check on non-domain joined VDA’s
Support for Active Directory Based Activation
This release adds support for Active Directory-Based Activation (ADBA). ADBA enables you to activate machines through their domain connections. Machines are immediately activated when they join the domain. These machines remain activated as long as they remain joined to the domain and in contact with it. This functionality is only supported on Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 and later versions.
Citrix Licensing 11.16.6
With this version the Citrix License Administration Console has reached end of support and is also removed from the installation. The reason for this is more on the security things and also 3rd party dependencies. This is the first step moving away from the older “lmadmin.exe”. Now only Citrix Licensing Manager can be used. “Lmgrd.exe”
Broker Enhanchements: Schedule restart for machines in maintenance mode.
In the past cusyomers have complained of the restart schedule option missing for machine on maintenance mode. With CVAD 2006 this feature is now available through Powershell only.
New-BrokerRebootSchedulev2 rebootSchedule1 -DesktopGroupName <MyDesktopGroup> -IgnoreMaintenanceMode $True
Set-BrokerRebootSchedulev2 rebootSchedule1 -IgnoreMaintenanceMode $True
Virtual Delivery Agent (VDA’s) 2006 changes
Group Policy to enable and disable keyboard synchronization Input Method Editor (IME)
This client keyboard layout synchronization and IME inprovement policy setting allows the use to change the keyboard layout and syncronise this with the VDA dynamically in a session without the need for logon or re-connection. This setting is disabled by default.
Enable Unicode Keyboard Layout Mapping
This setting provides VDA site support for Unicode Keyboard Layout mapping and is used for incorrrect keyboard mapping, that may happen in non-windows Citrix Workspace app. And is set to prohibited by default.
Hide Keyboard Layout Switch pop-up message box
This policy setting can help the keyboard pop message behaviour.
Seamless window enhancement
When you lock a seamless session, its log on screen is now no longer full-screen. The endpoint’s desktop or other applications are accessible.
Linux Virtual Delivery Agent 2006
